2015 Culpeper Cycling Century – CANCELLED

The Culpeper Cycling Century planning committee met today to discuss the fate of the Saturday, October 3, 2015 cycling event.  The committee engaged in consultation with the Culpeper County Office of Emergency Services that just completed a conference call with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service.  The committee has come to the conclusion that the only SAFE option is to CANCEL the Culpeper Cycling Century for this Saturday, October 3rd, 2015.

The National Weather Service & Department of Emergency Management stated that:

Starting tomorrow evening through the weekend, there will be periods of heavy rain that could accumulate 5-10” over the three day period.  No matter the exact track of the storm, these amounts can be expected.  There is a potential for widespread flooding during this time.

Additionally, two of the roads on the route have already been under water and are currently covered with debris and mud from last night’s rain which was much less than what is forecasted for this weekend.

We regret having to cancel, but the safety of participants and volunteers is the most important consideration.

Pre-registered participants – please check your email for important information regarding your registration.

Weather and the Culpeper Cycling Century on 10/3/15

The Culpeper County Parks & Recreation Department is  working with the Department of Emergency Services to determine what conditions will be like on Saturday.  The event is normally rain or shine.  But sever weather, torrential down pours / strong winds, are serious cause for concern.  We most importantly want a Safe event.

A final decision will be made no later than 5:00pm tomorrow, Thursday, 10/1/15.

Decision will be posted here,  on www.Facebook.com/CulpeperRecreation ,  and will be emailed to all registered participants.
